IB learners complete meaningful assessments.

Check out the Unit 2 Culminating Writing for Ms. Kelleher's 6th grade language arts classes. Students wrote modern fairy tales and then created their own websites to publish their tales: http://mskelleherlanguagearts.weebly.com/culminating-task-2-forum

IB learners are creative.

IB learners inquire into global issues.

This fall, our 8th grade science scholars completed an inquiry project into the Ebola crisis. Students examined a variety of sources to learn about the causes of Ebola, how it is spread, how it is treated, and the role science can play in helping us both understand and treat the disease. This inquiry was a part of their exploration of the IB MYP global context "Globalization and Sustainability" which encourages students to consider the positive and negative consequences of interconnectedness and how local issues connect to larger global issues. Meanwhile, in sixth grade, students recently read articles on a variety of issues from around the world. They then used their creative communication skills to write poetry that explained key information about the topics.

IB learners are internationally-minded.

In September, 6th grade language arts students explored plot structure by analyzing children's stories from around the globe, 8th grade math students learned how to use scientific notation by analyzing demographic data from countries around the world, and 7th graders created a Hispanic Heritage display and discussed questions like, "What is the minimum wage in the US and in other parts of the world?" and "Is it a living wage?".

IB learning is hands-on, inquiry oriented, and collaborative.

A few of the topics our students explored in September: events of 9/11, the elements of design, the origins of human civilization, and Hispanic Heritage.
